We dont have to drown, we can float and
pole our rafts around the reef. But, god, the water
is that blue that kills you with a longing thirst for
anything, even salt and dry bread, and you know
secretly that there is no dryness to it, no matter how much
you hope that there might be, to save you from
your own melting, to save me from mine.
Look, the sea is another world. Its not like here.
The rules of gravity have exploded, beneath
the blanket of surface tension that wraps itself
around the world we are floating on. I could not write
another version of this ocean, I just think
we have got to dive into it, because while I could live,
here, on this tension, and never touch the perfect
secrets of sea horses and octopi, why why why, and
what would life be worth, without this exploration?

Look, I am going to do this. I am not afraid of anything at all.
