Issue #1: Dr. Broken and His Quest for No Such Cure.
======================================

Because the world was getting darker every day
and she was only glowing out of habit;
Dr. Broken tried to find a cure, and failed.

The world grew black, and she began to blend
and light was yellow, not white, as it should be.
Dr. Broken tried to find a cure, and failed.

Because the city was ruled by insincerity;
and the world was turning on dollar bills
Dr Broken tried to find a cure.

Because every precious bird had left this town,
and the grass was turning gray and hard,
Dr Broken tried to find a cure, and failed.

And if he could not repair this damaged world,
he would not bear to let her walk upon this soil.
While walking, upon notice of a blue feather
ZAP! She bursts into a radioactive glow!

Dr Broken becomes transformed. For a moment,
he is covered with heat, but then, the feathers gone,
the light faded, he finds his heart turned black,
his hands covered once again with flesh.

He found he had grown a set of useless wings;
and his skin was useless, a trap for something else
and he could not manifest it, not with words,
but it was the cold chill of hopelessness
as he watched her walk back into shadows.

If the world would respond so coldly to light,
could not be revived, could not be made to glow
in green and blue; then she did not belong here
and the world had no right to hold her.

Dr. Broken tried to find a cure, and failed.
Now, this planet was only so much despair.
He would build a ray to crush the world
with layers and layers of glass:

No one would touch anyone, and the world
would surely implode from all this pressure.
Dr Broken tried to find a cure, and failed.

Issue #2: The Boy With Magnetic Eyes.
======================================

A boy was born with magnets where his eyes should be.
He could see, but he could not glance away
from anything that glimmered or shined; and so he stared
because he had no choice. The whole world is metallic!

His eyes would become fixed on discarded mittens
or men in plaid suspenders; traffic lights would fall
to the ground as he watched them change from red
to green to red to green.

It hadn't been a problem with the smoother shapes;
the buildings and the cars and the trees.
But when it came to smaller things, the world became
sharpened debris, like knives aimed for his eyes.

Magnet Eyes had a super power, and as such
was obligated to fight crime.
So he did; moving objects into perfect patterns
to reflect light into hearts of all evil doers.

Magnet Eyes would deflect nickels from a rich man
into the cup of the accordion player;
sometimes, when an office manager was on the phone
he would find his paper clips twisted into a swan.

Dr. Broken knew of him, and knew that Magnet Eyes
might try to save this broken planet,
and so Dr. Broken set out, first of all, to destroy him.

Issue #3: The March of the Corporatons
======================================

An army was marching every day. They wore their uniforms
and they had their name badges; and they swallowed computers
with secret plans, concerning placement of other armies
in the war against not having enough of the things they had.

Voices had been replaced by the sounds of machinery.
The most articulate, an elite squad, had printers in their throats
that could print out ideas in forms of numbers and dollar signs.
When they choked, you saw garbled data, and markets crash.

Of course, a boy with Magnetic Eyes would not do well here,
Corporatons could not speak a language with exclamation points
instead of dollar signs; and as such, eyes that could ignite the world
were seen as threats to these towering fortresses; and threats?

In a language of mergers and bottom lines, the Corporatons
and Dr. Broken formed a subsidiary designed to deploy
advertising campaigns against the internal glow of things..
They invented and sold light-lite; in replaceable plastic tubes.

Soon, the town was plastic, all light packaged and sold.
Magnetic Eyes was rendered powerless; but vowed to find
a way to save this dark and plastic world.
