In every place where I am alone, a single stratagem: wait. It is hard waiting for the landscape to want you there. But I wait. 2. Tuesday in America, no one says a word about the tractors running over the suns reflection on dewdrops on blades of grass in some country or if not rain, the way the wind brings up the sand makes it into giant sculptures. The universe is building shapes trying to tell us what its castles look like. It is not enough; we must throw some blood and bits of skull; beat the speed of wind, with metal, turn dust storms into a hail of bullets that tears through skin and splatters all this life into puddles- the sand dries up around it into a crust. The wind goes on building castles around us. It is hard waiting for the landscape to want you there. But I'll wait. 3. On 9/11/01 we lost only slightly more as had died from tobacco on 5/4/88 or 6/17/92 or 4/16/97. Perhaps if Arabs had invented tobacco, we would all stop smoking? It is the simplest lesson: Sometimes people die. It is the hardest lesson to be easy: Let them go and rest in peace, not to trod on their graves so we can wave a flag and call to avenge them. No one ever mentions the pentagon. Always the arms stretched up towards the air. Even the nightclubs and the russian theaters are too human. We care about this, because we care about the sky, and we care about them because they fell from it: Let them go back up. I am waiting for the folly to end. It is hard waiting for the landscape to want you there. But I'll wait. 4. I don't want to be safe anymore. I am tired of being protected. I am ill from what this security tastes like. Let's just be victims, then.
