I think it'll stop being used when Flash Player 7/8 die out - until then it's still a valuable tool. That's one of the great things about XCode it plays nice with the AS3 alpha/betas:

And even when it falls short you can work around it. For example, checking out a project from CVS and automatically importing it into your XCode project doesn't seem to be possible. But with a combination of Applescript and shell scripts it works like a charm.
