They probably are more concerned with your knowledge of 'compiling AS3'. If you know AS2, then you're good to go! I figured out AS3 when flex 2 was in alpha. Not much to it, if you know any java/C#/javascript-like language (what, Algol-based?).

I am not aware of any (print) books introducing Actionscript 3... Are there any?
