not sure but is validating first through normal means using a loadvars
object an option?
  loadvarsObj.addRequestHeader("Authorization","BASIC " + Base64.Encode
("username:password"));
  loadvarsObj.sendAndLoad(myUrl, loadvarsObj, "POST");
