Depends on the length of your video, but might be more efficient to render the video at an alternative speed. Not exactly the same as your case, but this is especially better when doing something like playing the movie backwards, that is, do a separate and complete rendering of the movie that displays as if playing backwards. Maybe you might have luck along those lines.
