Thanks very much for all the replies on this.

It seems much more complicate than I'd hoped, to achieve the voting and
saving to file. I've downloaded Zinc and have been reading up on Shared
Object but there don't seem to be any tutorials out there for someone
like myself - 'newbie' level trying to achieve something advanced! May
need to go back to the drawing board and not do in Flash.

You could use a Shared Object, if the data you're saving is pretty  
simple. If it's going to get quite complex though then AIR is  
definitely the way to go, you get SQLLite built in.
