depends where in the world you are, and what kind of work you are doing and for who.

if you can freelance and/or if you are talented and you also have a good portfolio... then in the USA, UK and NL you can find work without a degree in flash/flex/AS just fine. But try that in France and you won't ever get past the resume pile.
