In this case the problem seems to stem from the fact that the first layer of the MainTimeline is a mask layer. Just to get it working with the structure you've described, add a layer to the MainTimeline above the mask layer. Place something trivial on the new layer, a graphic or an empty MovieClip. The point is the new layer must not be an empty layer. After that your box clip should display in the desired manner. I've no idea whether this is a known issue or a bug or whatever. Good luck!
