If the purpose is to provide for automatic selection of the proper
CODEC then it should work with all CODECs. Personally I think it is a
very clever idea to autoconfigure the program based on what the other
end wants/needs.

But if you have enough processing power you might try to determine to
which CODEC family the modulation belongs or even do a brute-force
search, i.e. run the stream through all CODECs in parallel and look
for best correlation.
