Somewhere in the Linuxham Yahoo Group archive I suggested the same thing. Dave's explanation was that above 35 WPM or so cwdaemon begins to have misformed elements due to kernel latencies which can be partially overcome by a "real time kernel". Fldigi's use of the sound card eliminates those problems and can be used for some very high speeds. Better, IMO, is my suggestion that Fldigi act as a replacement for cwdaemon itself by being able to listen on port 6789 and processing the cwdaemon commands but using its soundcard keying method. This way all past, current, and future Linux programs that utilize cwdaemon could standardize on the cwdaemon feature set whether the real daemon is provided by Fldigi, Winkeyer USB Server, or cwdaemon itself.
