Hi my friends, Here in Camaguey Cuba we are having great fun with fldigi+flarq (3.21.0AK, on linux and windows) in 2m VHF freqs, but I was inquired by a ham friend about a custom PSK mode inspired for the variety of PSK modes (31, 63, 125, 250, etc, for a faster file transfers with flarq) Or in defect of that a preset with PSK-1000, PSK-2000 or even PSK-3000? For transfering files/chating, etc in a local city over a clean chanel on VHF, the S/N are great enough for test/try a more speed full mode. I think: why not? Even with other mode, not has to be PSK... In searching for a more faster transfers on a clean VHF channels what mode do you recommend? There are a software, method, technical reason or a legal reason for not developing a custom settings or more speed full preset for PSK mode for use in VHF localy?
As long as two different installations of fldigi interpret the non-standard settings the same, there should be no technical reason. Here in the USA, there would be some limitations regarding baud rate on HF. For example, I believe that PSK-500 is illegal on HF because of the limit of 300 baud PER CARRIER. Higher bands have a limit of 1200 baud, so PSK-1000 woud be about as high as you could go.
You could get around those lmits by usng a mode which divides the data among multiple carriers. I don't know if Cuba imposes any baud rate limits.
PSK-3000 might pose some problems since many transceivers might not be able to handle a 3 Khz wide signal.
This is only a question/suggestion, I wait for your answer my friends. -- CO7WT Ing. Pavel Milanes Costa
