Installing in /usr/local is relevant only if you care about other
languages besides english, otherwise you can just put the alpha binary
in your /home/yourname/bin directory and launch it from there.
Desktop launchers can be modified/copied/created to point to different
executables (otherwise order of directories in your PATH variable will
define who gets launched).
