In the past I would install the public release of fldigi
as /usr/local/bin/fldigi and the latest alpha release as
/usr/local/bin/fldigi.test

Now that the installation procedure has changed to go into
/usr/local/ and extracting from the tarball, I'm not sure how to
manage the public and test versions. I could make a /usr/alpha
or /usr/test and unpack the tarball in there. Or I could unpack
the tarball in some temporary directory and move fldigi to
/usr/local/bin/fldigi.test and compare the rest of the directory
contents with /usr/local/ to see if they are the same.

How are other people handling this, to be able to keep both
production and test versions at the same time?
