Classifiers might work, but it is not the recommended solution. The recommended way to distinguish between branches is with versions, either bump the version (1.0-SNAPSHOT, 1.1-SNAPSHOT), or distinguish versions (1.0-SNAPSHOT, 1.0-branchA-SNAPSHOT). Classifier have specific meaning about types of artifacts, so adding classifiers can change the behavior of some of the tools.
