I am not sure what you are asking? I am currently using the CF flash remoting
piece to connect my CFC to a flex application that reads it with the
remoteOject object. No official remote data services involved.

It is my understanding that you would want the Flex data services if:

1) You want your ColdFusion, or other technology to push data to the clients
instead of having the clients pull all data.

OR

2) Connect your flex app to other technologies such as Java more directly
without using webservices or XML files.

And there is a free starters level to the Flex data services if you want to try
it to see if you do need it before you buy it.
