To use RemoteObject you need to compile against a services-config.xml file, this is setup for you when creating a application with server type coldfusion. The services-config has settings with placeholders for servername, port, etc so can be portable as long as the swf is served from the same server as that which the swf tries to communicate with.
Curious, how are you using RemoteObject without this?
