This has already been debated to the death, ressurrected & debated some
more, and finally argued to dust.

For more information:

There is a direct link you can send to your clients via the Flash Detection
Kit and/or utilize IE's ActiveX auto-update.

For those of you on Intranets, you can apply for a free licensing to
distribute the Flash Player Installer yourself.

If your worried about the impact this will have on Flash, there is a
positive and negative.

The positive, business deals with Yahoo! will hopefully increase RIA's
exposure much like Google's recent projects have, and Macromedia apparently
has recieved dough to help fund additional projects (as much as one can
surmise from the FAQ and various blog postings with Macromedia
representative responses).

The negative, Macromedia will not rescind on removing this offer until it
negatively affects player downloads. Millions download the Flash Player a
day.

They've proven they will do this already with Shockwave:

Therefore, it will take a negative impression on current Flash Player
downloaders (a sharp decrease in daily downloads) before Macromedia will
take action. They are actively monitoring these downloads.

Wedge

Subject line says it all - note the commentary at the first link,
provided below. Flex developers that rely on the Flash runtime should
be concerned about this issue.

I just ran across this page describing MM's Flash Player download (and
behind that, some kind of generally toxic and indeed self-immolating
business decision) bringing "other stuff" (currently, the Yahoo
Toolbar) along with it...

... you see the Yahoo Toolbar, selected by default, if you hit MM's
link using IE browser.
