I use the Echo portion of the Macromedia Flex Application Starter Toolkit. They have a direct object inspector so you can just type in the id of the object and you can view it in real time, as well as an Echo console that you can send debug output to.

It also has a timestamp function so you can see the timing of things and how long they take, something I've found VERY useful.
