Well, we're starting to de-rail, but I'll keep going. Most of you long-time
flexcoders remember why we made that decision. If the appearance of a
scrollbar caused re-layout of the children, the children might get smaller and
put up a scrollbar and all you might see was a cascade of scrollbars. How
would you have us solve this differently? We were worried that such a cascade
would be confusing and discouraging to new users, and hard to debug.

BTW, the reason ScrollPolicies are "auto" by default is that we didn't want new
users puzzling over why their component didn't show up on screen. Remember,
this is in the days before there was a design view. The scrollbars serve as a
clue that your component is there, but just off-screen. I don't know that I'd
change that either, but maybe a easy way to switch defaults is in order.

In Gumbo, I think you'll have to opt-in for scrollbars by changing your markup.
You may not be able to change your mind about scrollbars at runtime w/o some
re-parenting.

This is probably the worst bug ever that I have had to deal with as a component
dev. This has made me hold back some real complex containers I wanted to
release.

PS, the bug about this actually refers to one of my components! The user that
submitted it, used a url pointing to one of my product examples. I actually
found the url to the bug when I was checking my referrers on the site. :)

My untested suggestion picked up ADDED_TO_STAGE in capture phase, so bubbling
isn't required.

Mike, I don't recall that conversation, but someday, after we all move to
Gumbo, I hope we don't hear about this issue and the one about scrollbars
occluding content again.

Tracy, I'll buy you an egg holder...

Alex,

You remember a conversation we had about 1 1/2 years ago about scroll policy
and min height and width?

You were talking about this same issue. I'm not saying min metrics solve this
problem but, you were thinking about implementing the scroll policy properties
differently.
