At 4 weeks in, you have opened the door, but have yet to truly step through it.
Don't worry too much about what you don't know this early in the game. I've
been working with ActionScript for 10 years and AS3 for 3 years or so. I'm
still learning new things about it, and using the reference materials and
questions to forums to solve issues at hand. That's just the nature of the
beast.
As others have said, get the basic programming concepts down first: variables,
operators, conditionals, loops, data types. Write some simple code just to
practice those and drill them in. Then move to slightly more complex things:
functions, and so on… and so on… These things will travel with you no matter
what language you work in, and without a good handle on them any language will
be a challenge at best.
Along with the lynda.com videos, I highly recommend getting a copy of Essential
ActionScript 3.0, by Colin Moock and working through it one chapter at a time.
It will take you all the way from the beginning core programming concepts into
some pretty complex AS3 coding. You will learn tons just by literally typing
out his examples and trying to make them run in Flash or Flex.

Good luck to you. You're never too old to learn a new trick…or so I choose to
believe.
