I thought it was a great article also.  2 points:

1. I hope Adobe makes Macromedia a division rather than, as the article says, "Soon to become Adobe".  Adobe is a great brand name, but for some different reasons.  Macromedia, since the maturation of Dreamweaver 8 especially, has become also a great brand name for slightly different reasons; of course Flash attributes to this also.

2. One big element missing in all discussions, is the need to make Flash more compatible with Search engines.  I know there are a few search engines that index flash content; but not well.  And meta-tags don't go over well with Google.  I've resorted to text after a flash file that is colored, not in the page background, but in the table background, to make sure it's indexed w/ the flash; and an ISAPI Rewrite solution to ensure hierarchical product pages even though the products appear w/in the page itself.

I also liked the articles comments on Gates; I've followed MS both as a sort of "worshiper" and now a "detractor" (for my own very good reasons) for nearly 20 years and I can tell you, his title of "Chief Software Architect" is an absolute joke.  With the exception of the design of the late 80's Windows Messaging (meaning GUI messaging) architecture which was a well thought out "economy of scale" solution oriented towards accomplishing a GUI on DOS, I can't think of one solution, not one, that was either innovative or original.  He's a business man of the Tom Delay sort, period...one of those "By all means necessary" guys, and that has nothing to do with creativity.  Real bulldogs are far more attractive than a soul like that, hiding really an insecure desperation more than anything.

Great article.
