Thank you for this detailed explanation.  The
confusion for me is that attachMovie creates an
instance of the object with the new name given--that's
what the documentation and all the examples say.  But
that name is not known to the flex compiler, so you
can't do this:

_root.attachMovie(objFromLibrary, "newObjInst");
newObjInst.getSomeProperty();

Flex says it doesn't know what newObjInst is.

We're not in any hurry to move to Flex 2.  We'll wait
and see how it goes.
