Thanks for the response. I was able to get it to work another way
by changing the XML line of code right above in the example.
I changed the following:
var newNode:XML = new XML();
newNode = <folder label='Sibling'></folder>
To:
var newNode:XML = new XML("<folder label='" + strSomeVariable
+ "'></menuitem>");
I don't know if this is a hack way to do this, but it worked and I
slowly backed away from the keyboard.....
