I 'think' I just had the same issue as you although I don't quite understand what you wrote.
Try setting your parent containers minWidth=100 and minHeight=100;
See the long thread on the flexcomponents yahoo mailing list as it is to lengthy to describe what is happening.

Yeah, bog is supposed to be bug ;-)
