No, I'm saying that I get the default style (as hard coded into 
classConstruct) even though I have a style sheet that gives a different style 
too all instances of the TestStyleComponent class).

I took the pattens from

so they should be right.

Yup, and you can see this work in the code I gave - the 2nd instance of the 
TestStyleComponent has a styleName, and correctly applies the custom styles 
to itself - which means the code is working, I think.
Which is then odd as to why the first one doesn't work right.
