Thanks Ted,

Once I looked at it, I started to do exponents in my head and said, yeah they could have a lot of urls with 5 char length.

Thanks moderator, just becasue your a developer doesn't mean you know anything. IE me. I guess I am back to 1 strike,

Peace, Mike

Mike,

  1. Enter messy long URL and press "Make Tiny"
  2. TinyURL is presented, copy URL and email it.
  3. TinyURL uses number, caps, char for each item resulting in 62 permutations per character used. With 5 characters they can support 916,132,832 urls in the system and with 6 characters they can support 56,800,235,584. Regardless that is allot of URLS in a small space. :)

Actually I am looking at something similar for Flex.org like so:

http://flex.org/go/3734

http://flex.org/go/flexexchange

http://flex.org/go/as3docs

Cheers,

It's uploaded.

Note: this was made in one hour for a project prototype during Flex 2 alpha or beta 1 (Nov. 2005), I planned to rewrite it from scratch next week(by that time I will also implement a DateField version)

Jeremy,

Are you planning on releasing the source code for that component by any chance? I'm in need of a time stepper component, and had intended on writing one this week.

Cheers,

Steve

Well, this is not exactly what you want, but can be easily modified to be a DateField.

I created one last week in 1.5.  I'll recreate this week in AS3 since the concepts on how to do it better are on my mind and I agree, a lot would find it useful since it's how the HTML one works... or, at least how the one at sidejobtrack.com works.

So, sorry if this isn't what the group is for, but here's my request anyway.

I would love a component that extends DateField... that would allow for a user to click on the calendar icon OR enter a date by typing it in. I think that this would be a very commonly used component, if not a de-facto replacement for DateField.
