Thanks Tom, that's exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping to get. What kind of indication do you think would work?
I am implementing an option to turn the active parent button to toggle highlight to let the user know which levels are active. The thought was that the drop shadow to the child level also indicates which layer is currently active as well. I had never thought about how a user might perceive having the item they just clicked on move away from them. That's interesting. I have sped up the animation considerably in the project I'm trying to use this on. Hopefully that will help there too.
