I'm not sure I understand where a component moves from being introductory to advanced.

I think what your asking may be too generic for a single article / post. The crux of any Development (in any language) is often about building re-usable components. I could write a book or three on architecture approaches and ways to implement things. It sounds like your looking for a magic bullet; but I don't think there is one.

Well I am looking at things like structure (possible design patterns),
the best way to keep them loosely coupled. A more complicated example
that goes beyond just defining a MXML, or AS component. A component
that has some intermediate to advanced functionality. Maybe also
things like building these more advanced components, but keeping
things like item renderers in mind.
