Subject: [FlexEdge] DataBase Reset question

It seems that doing a database reset is a good thing to do when trying the new
alpha code, and frequently recommended as a first step in troubleshooting.

[Tim] It is a best practice to use a clean database after SVN updates so that
you have all the new default settings and a clean slate to start with for
testing purposes.

I haven't been able to find the answer to my question so here it is:

If I do a database reset, and then restore database info, would that not bring
back erroneous information?

[Tim] If you are referring to the utility on the Setup Form, the answer is yes,
importing a database is just a copy operation and the old database in its
entirety is changed to the running database (database.xml)

Or are there some data sets that are OK to restore, while others should not?

[Tim] Yes, generally, but that changes from version to version, which is why
Ray, K9DUR wrote his SDR Data Transfer Utility. It will transfer parts of the
DB that are generally safe to move, but with alpha code, this is still a moving
target. http://kc.flex-radio.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50327.aspx

The main pain in the neck part for me is restoring all of my transmit profiles
and EQ settings.

[Tim] I agree. This is what I normally use Ray's utility for is to move the
TxProfile "tables", which is 99.999999% safe to move all the time (unless there
is a DB schema change to that part of the database)

Maybe the safest thing is to just write all those settings down and edit them
manually after doing the reset?

[Tim] That is one way, but Ray's utility is really good with transferring TX
Profile data.

Is a step-by-step set of instructions either available in the KB, or could one
be created?

[Tim] See the article I referenced above.
