Actually, no. Microsoft Security Essentials is what I use. It’s reasonably effective and it is, at the very least, not harmful to your own system :-)

The problem is almost certainly NOT an actual NTFS problem. I would suggest the underlying problem is with the AVG antivirus that you're running. It really isn't a good antivirus package, and I'm being charitable in that characterization. I recommend you replace it with something -- in fact ANYthing -- else.
