Neither do I for the exact same reasons. The only thing I do is update the memory configuration in the BIOS to match (not exceed) the RAM timings of the chips. The BIOS "auto" mode is very conservative and will also de-rate the RAM speed too. It was configuring my PC-1600 RAM as PC-1333.
