When you add interfacing hardware into the mix, the problems multiple by 
several orders of magnitude too.

W1HKJ has done a good job on the cross platform FLDIGI software for Windows, 
Linux, and Mac platforms. A part of that success besides their obvious talent 
is choosing development tools and libraries which target the desired platforms. 
There are still differences to account for I'm sure but that has to make things 
more manageable.

I have developed a fair amount of software over the years but never anything 
cross platform. I can only imagine the challenges that adds to a project.
