I totally agree.  But the DDUtil solution isn't what some want and building 
your own widget would be the only other alternative.

And, if you build or program something yourself, you will have to maintain it 
and support it yourself.  This is not a trivial task.  You also will get only 
the features that you programmed or built, and nothing more.  DDUtil is 
constantly expanding, and has the support of many Flex users and Steve Nance.  
Steve's support is invaluable.
So, one can either try to reinvent a wheel and build a hardware/ Yaesu BCD 
converter, or you can ride the wave of CAT commands.

Hi guys,

I use and recommend DDutil that I personally use for both my 5K & 1500, it is a 
masterpiece of cat data software from Steve K5FR that gives TOTAL control and 
diagnostic information. Once you run it I am sure you would not have CAT any 
other way.

With external power meter, linear & palstar tuner and all my digi software this 
CAT system makes Flex a joy with both radios on the one PC that it can talk to 
without a change of settings.
