Brian, I run my ALE and Winlink stations 7x24 scanning multiple bands
year after year. My PC crashes on rare occasions, and I worry that the
radio and linear amp could be left on different bands during a
transmission. (My linear is homebrew and not well protected against high
SWR.) An inconsistent state seems less likely to me if the Flex hardware
itself puts out the band data.
