I've been an SWL DXer for 50+ years. For MW and SW I have pretty much stopped using any of my older receivers (TenTec 340, Drake R8B, NRD 545, an old Racal) and changed over to the WinRadio Excalibur. The Perseus is just as good (he said, hastily, lest Perseus owners rise up in righteous wrath). Either will let you look as far as the eye can see across LF, MW, SW, though many of us have concluded that that feature is less useful in practice than we thought it would be. It helps, to be sure, but it helps more on paper than when you are under the headphones.
Or use the Excalibur/Perseus as your receiver and transmit with the Flex. I do that some, too, when I need a receiver with a tab more breadth of vision than the 5K. What I find is that the Excalibur is useful for searching and, once I find something, I dial it in on the 5K and the receiver handles it just as well. I agree with you, though, that it would be nice to have it all in one box. 73 Bill On Thu, May 5, 2011 at 10:50 AM, dan edwards <[email protected]> wrote: > no, just for HF mixed mode contesting..like Radio Sport...or Field > Day... would be nice to see the whole band open and close...or watch for > openings...
