Alan,
First, set your squelches to zero. (I say that because sometimes you can
turn them off and sometimes not). Go into the audio equalizer (I use the
ten band) set the 250 hz to 3000 hz to max. and make sure the equalizer is
checked "on".
Then, don't try to use the master volume slider to enable you to hear it!
In fact, to eliminate the hum try to keep it below 30%. Use your audio
amplifier (I just happen to use a "retired" SONY ES for the purpose) to
bring the audio up. It won't sound good but it will be as good as any
litle asian box on 2M.

Flex 5000A + VU5K.
I just tried listening to our local 2M repeater with the 2.1RC3 software
and found that even with the audio cranked all the way up the volume level
was still too low. With RC1 the volume level is OK at a setting of 30.
