Dave, Have a look at figure 8, TRX board schematic of the SDR1000 hardware description and notice that the phone out from your MP3+ is connected via connector J3 and relay K1 to either the transmitter QSD IC2 or speaker connector J2. During transmit relay K1 connects the phone output of your Mp3+ to the transmitter while the signalpath goes from J3 to J2 during reception.
