Ken, I have no problem when I use VAC and RTTY decoding software all on the same computer as PowerSDR. My problem is that I run Logging/Contesting/RTTY software on a separate computer which can be switched among several different rigs.

I am using VAC with MixW and EasyPal-Lite for digital SSTV (7.173) and it works normally with no weird drive settings at all.
