Steve,

My motherboard is an Intel DG965WHMKR purchased from Fry's on June 4, 2007
for $124.99. The BIOS on this board has provisions for enabling/disabling
HPET. I installed an Intel Core2Duo E6600 ($243.00 at the time but probably
cheaper now) and 2 GB 800 mHz (4-4-4-12) Dominator RAM. The O/S is XP
Pro(SP 2).

This setup has worked very well with my FLEX5000A. CW keying is excellent
and I do use the HighRes mode.

Subject: [Flexradio] HPET question take 2...

Let me restate my earlier HPET question. Hopefully I will be a little
clearer this time.

I want to use the High Res option in the Keyer setup screen. There are some
dual core motherboards out there with Intel chipsets that DON'T have a BIOS
option to enable or disable HPET. I do need to restrict my purchase to a
motherboard with an actual HPET option to enjoy the benefits of the High Res
option.

Tim W4TME privately sent me a link to utility that checks the actually
checks timers. The link eventually took me to
http://www.grahamwideman.com/gw/tech/dataacq/skedgran/skedgran.htm. I don't
know how to interpret the tool, or if the tool really tells me if the High
Res option will work on my system.

I am ready to buy a new dual core system and want some accurate info to help
me in my desicion.

Steve N6VL
