I for one am glad Flex is making improvements with the new HRFIO board. I even
whined at Tim online about it. He said Gerald would be making an announcement.

I had visions of using my RX2 to hook up two transmitting antennas and be able
to switch between them. I am using only open wire fed wire antennas on HF, with
the exception of a now defunct GAP vertical that got bent up i a wind storm. I
had hoped to listen on the RX2 on either antenna and pick the one to transmit
on. Actually I could quickly switch between transmit antennas on RX1 for that
matter. I soon realized only RX2 IN and RX1 TAP were available for RX2 input.
It didn't really concern me until reading another thread on this reflector.

At least there is an option available for me to listen beyond RX2 IN and RX1
TAP with the upgraded HRFIO board. I had hoped that ANY antenna 1 to 3 could be
used for RX2 input. Now 6 meters can be used to transmit on all 3 antennas. But
it is still an improvement and I will be ordering the upgrade. After all, I
have saved $400 now as an early adopter.

ICOM didn't let me get a PRO III by upgrading my PRO II. Nor did Yaesu
allow upgrading my FT-897 and FT-857 to the FT-897D and FT-857D models. That
would have been easy to do Yaesu!

Elecraft extended the life of the K2, back in 2004, by significant user
modifiable hardware and firmware upgrades. They are the only other company that
is allowing significant upgrades to existing rigs. The other manufacturers make
you buy a new improved rig. That is why I didn't opt for the PRO III.

Thanks to Flex for not locking us into limited features!

Steve N6VL
