My N4PY software has a tune button that can bring up DTR and be wired to the
tuner tune initiate connection. The program also brings up a transmit
carrier for enough time for the tuner to then tune.

The problem with that approach is that a tune cycle would be initiated
EVERY
time the TX goes into transmit. He needs something that is on in tune
mode,
but not on in normal transmit.
