This might apply to other than Intel Processor motherboards that use the P55 chipset but this one thing I know:
You remember that when you get your computer for your flex radio you should hit the Del key (or F1 in some cases) to get into your computer's BIOS settings and disable Speedstep (which is reversely named since it decides to slow down your processor when it thinks you are not using it very much, so it should be called Slowstep), This is a power-saving technology and you cannot blame people for wanting it but for Flex Radios I am afraid it can cause unpredictable behavior. There is a new setting that also has a dramatic effect on your DPC levels in the latest P7P55D motherboard I use, called C-state. Both Speedstep and C-state are under the CPU settings category. C-states are used to detect when to go to sleep and when to wake up (your computer, not you!). I have found with C-state enabled, it can make your DPCs jump 50+ us. No, not a lot but its a huge percentage when you get 0-15 under XP! Disable it also. In a similar vein (and something that desktop users wouldn't normally think to do), look at the Power control item in your control panel. If there is a power scheme for Performance, select it. If you do not, just make sure that the timer for allowing your disks to power down is set to 0 (or something large like 4 hours). 73 Neal Campbell Abroham Neal Software www.abrohamnealsoftware.com (540) 645 5394 NEW PHONE NUMBER Amateur Radio: K3NC Blog: http://www.abrohamnealsoftware.com/blog/ DXBase bug reports: email to [email protected] Abroham Neal forums: http:/www.abrohamnealsoftware.com/community/ _______________________________________________ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List [email protected] http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/
