I used this technique last summer during the Es season on 6 meters. I was
able to work a number of weak signals sandwiched between some very strong
stations by narrowing the band pass filter. Many of these weak signals
would not have been discovered on a conventional radio.

During the January VHF contest I set the sampling rate at 192K for maximum
band width visibility and worked my way across the band clicking on signals
as I spotted them.

The Flex 5000+VU and PowerSDR has revolutionized the way I work contests.

Subject: [Flexradio] WPX Contest

In the recent WPX Contest I decided to try a different approach than I used
the last time. I switched the Panadapter to 2x zoom level and went up and
down the bands looking for the weakest signals I could find. They were easy
to see at 50fps. It is truly amazing what the 5000 can hear! These were all
stations that were down at the noise level, many with strong adjacent QRM. I
was able to eliminate strong nearby stations easily by grabbing the edge of
the passband and dragging with the mouse - bye bye QRM.

Talk about tuning in excitement...

I worked 145 of these weak signals worldwide!
