Hi Clinton,
there are probably 3 things going on here. The first is translating the
latin taxonomy terms into English. The second is using a formal grammar with
taxonomic rules to define the taxonomy. Finally is applying a CSS to format
the information into the box seen.
FlexWiki can easily deal with the technical matters. The big problem is
creating the taxonomy. This is the problem Berners-Lee is always discussing.
The problem is in creating the formal grammar for your subject matter. It
just happens that biologists have pre-created that grammar and then
WikiPedia is leveraging it.
This is a demonstration of the potential power of the semantic web. With an
agreed upon grammar it is easy to apply a taxonomy to any subject. But....
getting a working grammar is very difficult. Then getting users to input the
grammar is the next problem. With biologists that is an accepted and normal
practice.
