Hi.  I'm a Linux newbie trying to compile FlightGear on SuSE 7.2.  Please excuse what is probably a dumb predicament.

I got the out-of-date version of FlightGear that came with SuSE to run properly by running SaX2 to Load 3D modules (RPM packages NVIDIA_GLX and NVIDIA_kernel).   The out-of-date version that was bundled with SuSE now runs fine, whereas before the installation of the NVIDIA drivers it had a dismal framerate.  However, since I'd like to run JSBSim, I decided to try compiling the newest source for plib, SimGear and FlightGear per the "Installation and Getting Started Manual" online.

I assumed that since I installed the NVIDIA RPMs, I would have no problem compiling the new source.  But when I "./configure" plib, several files are indicated as not found:
.
.
checking for gluLookedAt in -lGLU...  (cached)  no
checking for gluLookedAt in -lMesaGlu...  (cached)  no
checking for glutGetModifiers in -lfreeglut...  (cached)  no
checking for glutGetModifiers in -lglut...  (cached)  no
.
.
checking for GL/glu.h...  (cached)  no
.
.
checking for GL/glut.h...  (cached)  no
checking for GL/freeglut.h...  (cached)  no
.
.

When I try "make" after this, it fails with the message "Ul.h:82: GL/glu.h: No such file or directory".

I've done a find on glut.h, and nothing appears.  A find on GL returns several directories.  When I try "./configure --with-GL=prefix" to any of these directories, I end up with the same result.

My setup is: AMD Thunderbird 1.1 GHz, 256 Ram, NVIDIA Vanta.
...can someone please lead me to enlightenment?

Thanks in advance,
Lance Bays
