Err ... I just wanted to say ... I apologize for my stupidity. :-(
What happened: during my valgrind tests I had turned off all optimizations
in plib/simgear/fgfs, and forgot to turn it on again. I would never have
thought, that this can cause a framerate drop from 10 to 1! (Actually,
I still don't believe it. But there's no doubt.)
normally (10/s): -g -Wall -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -ffast-math \
-funroll-loops -mpentiumpro
dead slow (1/s): -g -Wall -O0 -mpentiumpro
Thanks for the tips and sorry for the noise. But at least I (we?) learn
something from it: optimization does actually matter!

PS: Of course,I get better framerates up to 40/s (without clouds/panel) in
some areas (above the sea ;-), but airports badly kill performance,
just like the panel does. That's very sad, because I can never land
with ILS. Need a better computer ...
