I think that would be fine for the short term, as long as we indicated clearly (in comments in the XML file, and perhaps the file name itself) that it was just a temporary solution. We'd also need to avoid letting any user-supplied models cancel ours out; we could either put the user's models in a separate subtree or start the built-in ones at a high index (like 99999).
