One that I have enjoyed is following the Columbia river.  If you start
from Portland, OR (KPDX) the airport is right next to the river.  Just
start following it east.  You quickly get into interesting terrain.
Using various combinations of autopilot/terrain following and time
acceleration can make your exploration go faster and reduce the risk
of flying into the ground.  The columbia river route would be really
sweet in a wrap around immersive display system ... :-)
